Opportunity to join Human Research Ethics Committee

Gold Coast Health is seeking volunteer members to sit on its Human Research Ethics Committee.

The committee meets 11 times a year and has four objectives:


Research improves outcomes for mothers with eating disorders

New research is helping staff in Gold Coast University Hospital’s Lavender Mother-Baby Unit to identify and treat mothers with eating disorders.

The Lavender Mother-Baby Unit provides specialised inpatient treatment to mothers experiencing significant post-partum mental illness, including those with eating disorders.

The unit is the only public one of its kind in Queensland catering for women, and their infants, requiring admission to an inpatient unit.  


Health service ready to deliver next chapter in pandemic

As the pandemic transitions to a new chapter, we will close our remaining COVID-19 Vaccination Centres at Coomera and Tugun on 14 April.

Executive Director responsible for the COVID-19 Response Paula Duffy said the closure of the centres was an historic moment for Gold Coast Health and its involvement in the pandemic response.

“Gold Coast Health has supported the local COVID-19 response and administered more than 405,000 vaccines over the last 12 months,” said Ms Duffy.

Each day is different for Homeless Health Outreach Team

The HHOT team has been in place on the Gold Coast for the past 15 years, and are specialists in Mental Health, Drugs and Alcohol. They reach out to the community, visiting outreach centres on the Gold Coast that provide housing services and other services to homeless people.


Music therapy strikes a chord with special care newborns

Music therapy is supporting families of seriously ill and premature newborns bond with their babies receiving special care in Gold Coast University Hospital. 

The Gold Coast Hospital Foundation recently provided more than $70,000 in funding for the newly developed music therapy service to improve outcomes for critically sick newborns in hospital.

Babies admitted to the Newborn Care Unit often endure lengthy hospital stays due to prematurity, low birthweights, and life-threatening medical complications.
