Patient care

What’s open

We continue to care for patients at Robina Hospital and Gold Coast University Hospital. Emergency departments continue to operate and anyone requiring emergency and urgent care will be seen.

Day Medical Unit at Gold Coast University Hospital remains open for patients who can attend (i.e. infusions).

Varsity Lakes Day Hospital and Tugun Satellite Health Centre are now open.

Surgery and other appointments

Emergency and category 1 surgeries have resumed.

All other elective surgeries are expected to resume as usual next week. Patients will be contacted directly if plans change.

Some non-essential procedures and outpatient appointments have been moved to telehealth, where possible. They have been contacted directly.

Medical devices

Members of the community should fully charge devices and ensure they have suitable batteries. Vulnerable patients are encouraged to stay with family or friends for support.

If power loss results in a medical emergency, please go to a nearby hospital immediately to receive care.

If it is not a medical emergency, and you just need power to charge your medical device, use all other options first, before visiting a Relief Centre. The hospital should be the last option for this circumstance.

More information on powered medical devices and disasters is available here.

Oxygen bottles

If you carry an oxygen bottle, please make sure the levels are as full as possible.

Oxygen bottles are for ambulation only. Every patient has a concentrator at home which is plugged in to main power and generates oxygen.

In general, people should refrain from using cylinders in situations like cyclone or any disasters and only rely on concentrators. If power fails, please proceed to the nearest relief centre.

If this results in emergency, please call Triple Zero or present to the nearest hospital.

Our team is contacting 'at risk patients' and supporting their needs.

Parking

Parking in the multi-storey car park at GCUH

Parking at GCUH remains unchanged . We have a commercial multi-storey parking facility with more than 2,200 undercover car parks open 24 hours a day.

The parking facility is operated by Point Parking.

Parking at Robina Hospital

Robina Health Precinct is the only carpark not operational due to a lack of power.

The gates will be functioning as normal from midnight tonight (March 12).

A fallen tree that was blocking the road to the Western car park entry/exit point has been removed. The western car park lower level is now open but motorists are reminded to be cautious as the area is muddy.

Staff should continue to enter the hospital via the front entry or the Emergency Department (ED) entry for access to the car park.
