Epidemiology is the science of using data to understand the cause, spread, and control of disease.
As Epidemiologists, we investigate how, when, and why diseases occur in the Gold Coast community. We investigate both communicable and non-communicable diseases.
We use data and information to control and manage disease threats, including outbreaks, guide the actions of the Public Health Unit, influence public health policy, and inform the planning and delivery of health care and community programs.
What we do
- Monitor and report on local immunisation trends
- Conduct regular surveillance activities on communicable and non-communicable diseases
- Identify the potential cause of disease outbreaks
- Use data and information to promote public health action
