Part of the Queensland Government’s Accelerated Infrastructure Delivery Program (AIDP), the Robina Emergency Department (ED) Expansion opened early 2024, adding an extra 20 emergency treatment spaces.
Works for the Robina ED Expansion included additional staff workstations and a new location for the Transfer Unit.
These extra spaces provide capacity to care for about 120 patients daily, alleviating some of the pressures faced by Robina Hospital, which is considered one of Queensland's busiest EDs.
Designed to work in tandem with the existing ED, the expansion further streamlines the process for treating patients.
Reducing emergency care wait times and improving patient flow, the new treatment spaces focus on less acute injuries and illnesses.
The recruitment of additional employees, including both clinicians and support services, has enabled the 24/7 operation of the additional 20 treatment spaces.
