Information to know before you apply

The transition from student to clinician requires support and guidance. Newly Qualified Nurses (NQN) and Newly Qualified Midwives (NQM) are supported by dedicated teams of unit-based educators and clinical facilitators here at Gold Coast Health during the graduate year. GCHHS is part of the Southern Cluster Hub for Rural and Remote Health, read more about this below.

  • Part-time positions
  • Gold Coast Health has its largest recruitment of nurses and midwives in January each year. For these positions you will need to apply via the graduate portal during the June/August intake.
  • A smaller recruitment of nurses occurs in June/July each year. For these positions you will need to apply via the graduate portal during the February/March intake.

  • Applications submitted via the Graduate Portal in June/August each year with one intake in January/February
  • Newly Qualified Midwives are educationally supported on a rotational program working in all areas of maternity services including pregnancy, birth and post-natal care.

Southern Cluster for Rural and Remote Hub | 2 year program

GCHHS is a part of the Southern Cluster | Nursing and Midwifery Graduate Recruitment and Professional Development Support Hub for Rural and Remote Health.

The Southern Cluster Hub provides an opportunity for Graduate Registered Nurses and Midwives to be involved in a two year graduate program. The program consists of 12 months rural and remote, and 12 months metropolitan or an option to continue in rural and remote. This is an exciting professional growth opportunity to work in diverse, challenging and rewarding environments, gain knowledge and skills for a lifelong career, and experience the wonderful lifestyle in rural areas.

The Southern Cluster Hub consists of the following Hospital and Health Services (HHS):

  • Children's Health Queensland
  • Darling Downs HHS
  • Gold Coast HHS
  • West Moreton HHS
  • Metro South HHS

There may also be opportunities in other Rural and Remote facilities across Queensland.

Beyond Graduate Transition Year

We also offer an opportunity for nurses to transition into specialty services after the transition to practice year is completed. Units that offer specialty transition to practice include:

  • Emergency
  • Intensive/critical care (adults and children’s)
  • Neonatal intensive care
  • Nursing/Midwifery Staffing Unit (NMSU) - Acute Care Transition
  • Medical Imaging
  • Mental health
  • Oncology/Haematology Day unit
  • Paediatrics
  • Perioperative department (anaesthetics, scrub/scout, post-anaesthetic care)
  • Procedural areas (radiology, endoscopy, cardiac catheter)
  • Renal.
