We are committed to delivering future-focused research and evidence-based practice to assure the community that health care is:

  • able to meet the anticipated needs of the community by collaborating with academic, government, not-for-profit and industry partners to deliver new technologies and innovations. 

To support our commitment, Gold Coast Health provides a range of funding initiatives. This assists eligible staff to engage in research and professional development activities, aimed to advance the delivery of optimal health care to the Gold Coast community.

Details of our funding opportunities are listed and we encourage eligible staff to apply. Whilst we would like to assist everyone, all applications are subject to review and not all will be successful.

Funding available up to $5,000

Eligible Gold Coast Health employees as first or last (senior) author qualify for one ‘approved’ application per year (based on a 12-month period from date of last approval) to support journal publication fees to a maximum of AUD 5,000.

The amount awarded is part of the Study, Education, Research Trust Account (SERTA) scheme.

Funding available up to $5,000

Gold Coast health employees who have been invited to deliver an oral presentation (10 minutes or more) at a conference, may be eligible for a maximum stipend of $5000 to assist with costs of conference registration and travel (where applicable).

Funding is awarded as part of the Study, Education, Research Trust Account (SERTA) scheme where operational funds or other resources are unavailable to the applicant.

Funding available up to $50,000*

Available for Gold Coast Health employees to engage in research activities in partnership with academic partners on National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Partnership Grants, Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage grants or other initiatives where our health service is a partner institution.

*The amount awarded is dependent on the requirements of our organisation as a partner to a successfully funded external grant that matches the funding contribution as part of the Study, Education, Research Trust Account (SERTA) scheme.

Funding to provide for 0.4 FTE, of three years’ duration

The Gold Coast Health Clinician Researcher Fellowships program is open to emerging and early career clinician researchers with an eligible Research Higher Degree, for this Fellowship being a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

The Fellowships will provide health professionals with the opportunity to pursue research, whilst continuing to work clinically.

Opening 18 September 2025
Funding up to $150,000

The Gold Coast Health Collaborative Research Grant Scheme 2025 will be launching on the 18th of September 2025, in collaboration with our academic partners, Griffith University, Bond University and Southern Cross University.

The grant program will reflect a strong collaborative approach in alignment with the vision and purpose of the Research Roadmap 2025-2028, and the aims of the Research Grant Scheme, to advance and translate high-quality research which addresses our health priorities, leading to improved patient care.
