Pandanus Unit - Acute Adult Mental Health

Who we are

The Pandanus Unit is a 24-bed acute adult inpatient unit at Gold Coast University Hospital for adults who are 25 to 65 years of age experiencing acute mental health conditions that can no longer be safely supported in the community setting.

Our multidisciplinary team includes nurses, psychiatrists, registrars, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers, lived experience (peer) and carer peer workers, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers.

What we do

We offer specialised care through individualised plans, including medication management, therapy sessions, family interventions, group programs, and recreational activities. Our unit is divided into a six-bed psychiatric intensive care unit and an 18-bed low-dependency acute ‘open’ unit, designed to ensure safety and well-being.

Our multidisciplinary team ensures care is consumer-focused, comprehensive, and collaborative with shared goals of recovery. Our unit has strong partnerships with the community services, including government and non-government organisations (NGOs) to support transitions between hospital and community-based care.
