Future Growth: New infrastructure and workforce 

Better Care Together

Following an exhaustive inquiry into how Queensland’s mental health, alcohol and drug services could be improved, the Gold Coast region is benefiting from The Better Care Together Plan. This plan demonstrates the Queensland Government's commitment to Gold Coast residents who experience mental illness, problematic alcohol and other drug use and suicidality over the course of their lives. From 2022 to 2027, the Gold Coast region sees over $122 million dollars allocated for new and expanded services, including an 86 additional mental health, alcohol and other drugs staff. 

 Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit 

 A new 40-bed Secure Mental health Rehabilitation Unit is under construction at Gold Coast University Hospital campus. To learn more about this new facility and job opportunities visit the Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit page. 

Coomera Hospital

The new Coomera Hospital will deliver additional mental health, drug, alcohol and specialist services to support the growing population of the northern Gold Coast corridor. Read more about plans for this new healthcare facility here.
