Consultation Liaison service

The Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service (CLPS) is a specialised team providing secondary consultation and support to inpatients within the general hospital setting (including obstetrics). The Service treats patients who have a primary medical condition with mental health concerns that are associated with or exacerbated by the medical condition.

The Service provides advice on appropriate management of patients with mental health concerns to the relevant clinical treating team, with the aim of improving the recognition, education and understanding of mental illness. Specialist mental health assessments are undertaken by the team as required.

CLPS also aims to facilitate linkages and continuity of care between the general hospital, primary care and mental health services.
