Surreal memories keep flooding back to Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) Registered Nurse, Cherry Bennett weeks after her return from a life-changing two-year nursing adventure through remote Australian territories.
Travel has a way of opening your eyes to very different ways of life, and that was certainly the case for Cherry who has returned to GCUH with a new sense of gratitude for the wonderful resources at her fingertips.

Sistas Shawls - Women taking care of women

A partnership between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Service - Gold Coast Health, BreastScreen Queensland Gold Coast Service, and Kalwun Development Corporation has introduced the Sistas Shawl project to Queensland. 

The Sistas Shawl project was introduced by the BreastScreen Victoria’s “Beautiful Shawl Project". First Nations Women accessing the service were gifted a beautiful cultural shawl, worn to feel safe and empowered during their breast screening experience.

Susie's kindness and creativity brings joy to the community

Susie Mac is a talented Currumbin artist who has been using her art to connect with her creative spirit during very difficult times.  

Susie is a cancer patient who has kindly shared some of her works with us to brighten the halls of Robina Hospital for other patients and visitors. 

“It takes my mind away into artist mode and off my problems," she said. 

Her art has been demonstrated at the Gold Coast show, fills homes and businesses across Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Asia, and you’ll spot plenty of her pieces down at the Currumbin RSL.

'Second Mum' to staff retires after 37 years at Gold Coast Health

During her 52-year nursing career, Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) Nursing Unit Manager, Margaret Connolly stayed true to a promise she made to herself, right up until her retirement this week, aged 70.
“I vowed that I would never treat my staff the way I had been treated as a trainee nurse,” Margaret said.
Margaret reflects proudly on the skills growth among her staff and her own achievements during 37 years with Gold Coast Health.
