Behind the Build with Ruby Thurecht

Outpatient Business Improvement Program Manager Ruby Thurecht, New Coomera Hospital

Meet Outpatient Business Improvement Program Manager Ruby Thurecht who is helping to shape Outpatient Services at the new Coomera Hospital, scheduled for completion late 2027.

What does your current role involve?
I lead a dynamic team dedicated to enhancing Outpatient Services through evidence-based improvements and strategic planning. We focus on maximising efficiency and overseeing quality improvements across outpatient services to align with organisational performance objectives.

What has your role been in the new Coomera Hospital?
Since starting as Program Manager in early 2023, I've been involved in planning and engaging staff for the outpatient department at the new Coomera Hospital as part of the Project User Group (PUG). We're designing a unique space that integrates various specialty areas, ensuring comprehensive and cohesive care.

Why is it important that clinicians have input into this future facility?
Clinicial input is vital as patient care is at the core of our efforts. Ensuring that clinical spaces are designed collaboratively and are patient-centred enhances the quality of care provided.

Do you have a highlight as a PUG member?
A major highlight was finalising the floor plan after extensive collaboration with outpatient representatives, the project team and architects – a testament to our collective commitment to optimising health care delivery.

What do you hope the new Coomera Hospital will be?
I'm excited for the new Coomera Hospital to expand our outpatient service capacity, which will meet the needs of the growing population in the northern Gold Coast and provide essential care closer to their homes.

Lastly, what do you do to stay healthy?
To maintain my health, I've focused on movement. I recently celebrated my 173rd consecutive day of walking at least 10,000 steps. Participating in the Queensland Health Steps Challenge was another way our team promoted health, accumulating more than two million steps collectively!
