Who we are   

The Perinatal Infant Mental Health Service is part of the Consultation Liaison service at Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH). Our team includes dedicated perinatal mental health nurses, consultant psychiatrist and registrar. 

What we do   

This service offers secondary consultations for pregnant women, women in their first year postpartum, and those seeking pre-conception advice. Our services address serious mental illnesses, such as postpartum psychosis, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, severe depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, and comorbid substance and alcohol abuse. 

Who can access this service?  

Women experiencing or at risk of serious mental health issues during pregnancy or postpartum, as well as those needing pre-conception advice, can access our services. We also support women and newborns through consultations with the Women and Newborn Service and the Paediatric Service, including the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. 

How to access this service  

Our services are available at GCUH’s antenatal clinic, through home visits, and community-based appointments. 

A referral from a General Practitioner (GP), or current treating team is required to access this service.  

GPs can access referral forms via Smart Referrals.
