Millerri-Nyumbarlian Midwifery Navigator service

The Millerri-Nyumbarlian Midwifery Navigators are experienced Clinical Midwife Consultants who assist pregnant women with specific health needs to navigate through the health and maternity care systems.

About the service

The Millerri-Nyumbarlian Midwifery Navigators:

  • Provide information on maternity model of care choices and aim to link women in with a named lead care provider
  • Coordinate pregnancy, birth and post-birth care
  • offer individualised care planning that acknowledges the woman’s emotional, social, cultural and spiritual considerations
  • Work with the woman and her care providers to ensure the woman and her baby are kept at the centre of care 
  • Provide information and support to women via face-to-face appointments, telehealth (video call) or via phone consults
  • Refer women to community and online support services as required 
  • Are available Monday to Friday 8am-4pm (excluding public holidays)

Outcomes

The Millerri-Nyumbarlian Midwifery Navigators aim to:

  • Work with vulnerable women and their families to develop a deeper understanding of their individual health needs, in order to provide the most appropriate supports 
  • Support early and ongoing engagement with services to improve health outcomes for women, their babies and their families
  • Provide and link women with additional support through pregnancy and early parenting to improve their experience of maternity care and optimise their lived experience of early mothering
