Who we are
The Melaleuca Acute Adult Mental Health Unit is a 24-bed facility at Gold Coast University Hospital dedicated to providing specialised mental health care for adults aged 25 to 65 years. Within the 24 beds are six beds allocated to our Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit.
Our multidisciplinary team including Nurses, Psychiatrists, Registrars, Occupational therapists, Psychologists, Social workers Lived Experience (Peer) and (Carer Peer) Workers, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers, ensure care is consumer-focused, comprehensive, and collaborative with shared goals of recovery.
What we do
Our unit offers high-quality, acute inpatient mental health services with a range of therapeutic interventions. We focus on helping consumers and their families understand and manage mental health conditions, while providing education and interventions that align with individuals' recovery goals.
Our unit has strong partnerships with s community services, including government and non-government organisations (NGOs) to support transitions before and after an inpatient admission.
Who can access this service?
Adults aged between 25-65 years of age, with acute mental health needs within the central/northern Gold Coast region can access our services.
How to access this service
Referrals for admissions are through the 1 300 MH CALL and patients of other Queensland Health services (e.g. Crisis Stabilisation Unit, Emergency Departments, Community Services).

Inpatient Ward
4pm to 8pm Monday to Friday.
10am to 8pm Saturday, Sunday, and Public Holidays.
Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
10am to 12pm and 3pm to 5pm Monday to Sunday.
