Young musicians and artists bring creativity to Gold Coast hospitals for Queensland Youth Week

Local music students kicked off the program with a performance at Gold Coast University Hospital.

Young performers and artists from across the Gold Coast are set to fill hospital spaces with music and creativity this April, as part of Queensland Youth Week (QTW). While QTW runs from 11 to 19 April 2026, Gold Coast Health’s Creative Health Hub will be celebrating all month long with an exciting creative program.

The program includes a series of live performances, exhibitions and participatory art activities, highlighting the talent and generosity of local young people while enhancing the hospital experience for patients, families and staff.

Among the featured performers are young musicians Charlotte and Xavier who will take to the Robina Hospital piano on Friday 10 April from 1:00pm to 2:00pm.

Harpist Mia and violinist Amelie, who have been sharing their music in hospital spaces for over a year will also return to Robina Hospital, with performances on Tuesday 14 April. Amelie will be performing from 9:30am to 1:30pm, followed by Mia from 11:00am to 11:30am.

The performances build on a strong foundation of youth music engagement that was sparked by a collaboration with local teacher Congcong. Congcong has been teaching students on the Gold Coast for more than two decades. Her students officially launched this month’s celebrations with a performance at Gold Coast University Hospital earlier in April.

“This performance brought immense pride and joy to the young musicians, who were thrilled to use their talents to give back to the community,” Congcong said. “The quality of their performances was met with glowing feedback from hospital staff and patients alike, making this initiative a truly rewarding experience for everyone involved.”

In addition to live music, a vibrant exhibition of 15 artworks by local young artists will be on display at Robina Hospital throughout April, thanks to Graphic Icon Art and its contributing artists.

Featuring creators as young as 11 years old, the exhibition offers a glimpse into the perspectives, imagination and creativity of the region’s emerging talent.

The Creative Health Hub is also thrilled to support mobile and drop-in creative sessions throughout the week, as part of a youth-led visual arts project supported through a Queensland Youth Week Grant. Local emerging artist and advocate Hayley will facilitate sessions to creative a collaborative artwork designed to amplify the voices of young people engaging with the health service, including those accessing the Paediatric Ward and Child and Youth Mental Health Services (CYHMS).

Queensland Youth Week is an annual celebration recognising the achievements, contributions and creativity of young people across the state, with this year’s hospital program placing a strong focus on community connection and wellbeing through the arts.
