Mental Health Crisis Reform

The Gold Coast region has been actively working to transform mental health crisis care, driven by the Gold Coast Crisis Reform 2021-2024 strategic framework for Responsive Effective, Compassionate and Connected Care. Through effective partnerships, embedding principles of crisis care and the establishment of new models of care, the Gold Coast now has a coordinated continuum of care to prevent, respond to and resolve crisis.

The Suicide Prevention Community Action Plan

As an initiative of the Joint Regional Plan, a Suicide Prevention Community Action Plan (CAP) was developed utilising the LifeSpan framework to support a holistic approach to suicide prevention in our region.

The CAP seeks to strengthen relationships and collaboration in the planning, coordination and implementation of suicide prevention activities. As this plan is ambitious and wide-reaching, people are encouraged to use it to guide all suicide prevention activities in the Gold Coast region. This plan is intended to be iterative and ongoing. The Suicide Prevention Implementation Group provides guidance for its implementation and is supported by the Regional Suicide Prevention Coordinator.

The Joint Regional Plan (JRP) for Mental Health, Suicide Prevention and Alcohol and Other Drug Services 2025-2028 builds on the previous plan and CAP. The JRP 2025-2028 sets a bold vision and collaborative roadmap for the region, focusing on working together to build a system that meets people where they are, supports them holistically and helps them live a life of meaning and purpose in a thriving community.

Why this matters

The JRP 2025-2028 responds to increasing service demand, workforce pressures and service gaps across our region, as noted in our Joint Regional Needs Assessment 2024-2026. It brings national and state reforms into local action, reflecting the unique needs of our Gold Coast community while aligning with the National Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Agreement and the associated Queensland-Commonwealth Bilateral Agreement.

Our Shared Vision – The people of the Gold Coast live life with meaning and purpose
within a compassionate, connected, and diverse community.
