We support nurses and midwives to advance their skills, to improve patient outcomes, and to develop our team. Advanced Practice roles include Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Navigators /
Midwife Navigators and Clinical Nurse Consultants/Clinical Midwife Consultants, and work across a range of specialties.
The basis of advanced practice is to utilise the relevant expertise, critical thinking and complex decision-making skills of a nurse or midwife, to provide autonomous generalist or specialist practice that is effective and safe (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, 2021).
Nurse practitioners
A nurse practitioner (NP) is a highly skilled and qualified registered nurse, who holds a Master of Nursing Degree, and has been endorsed by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia to order and interpret tests, diagnose, prescribe and refer to other specialties.
