Varsity Lakes Day Hospital is now treating 1,000 patients per month.
Staff took a break from their busy day working across six operating theatres and 24 beds to celebrate reaching the milestone.
It was a chance to reflect on the remarkable growth of the hospital.
Varsity Lakes Day Hospital Nurse Unit Manager, Claudia Ciobanu congratulated the team on reaching its long-held goal.
“When the facility opened almost seven years ago, we always said we wanted to reach 1,000 cases per month, and now we’ve done it,” she said.
“We never would have reached that number without the hard work and dedication of you, our staff – thank you.”
The number of staff at the facility has grown from 25 nurses on opening to more than 120 today, and daily surgery lists have tripled from 10 to more than 30.
Services at the hospital have also grown to include endoscopy, plastics, orthopaedic and other surgery, and women’s health clinics including the new Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Interdisciplinary Clinical Service (EPPICS), the first service of its kind in Queensland.
Varsity Lakes Day Hospital and Robina Hospital Nursing Director Anthony Davis said the 1,000 patients a month milestone exemplifies the important role of the hospital as part of the wider health service, as it takes pressure off our other hospitals and allow patients to be treated closer to home.
“Congratulations to all the staff that have worked at Varsity Lakes across the past seven years; we have achieved this milestone thanks to your efforts growing this hospital into what it has become today.”
