Work is now underway on Gold Coast Health’s new purpose-built Child and Youth Mental Health Services (CYMHS) facility at Proxima, with inSite Constructions appointed as the builder.
Located on Level 6 of the Proxima building in the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct, the 1,400 square-metre facility has been designed in close collaboration with clinicians, architects and young people with lived experience.
It will provide a safe, welcoming and psychologically supportive environment for young people up to 25 years of age and their families who are accessing specialist mental health care.
Inspired by the Gold Coast’s natural surroundings, the design incorporates curves and sensory features including adjustable lighting, sound-absorbing materials and textured finishes to create a calm, youth-friendly setting.
Early works began on 21 July, starting the installation of essential services (such as mechanical and electrical works).
Once these works are complete, the internal fit-out for the co-designed space will take shape.
This relocation is funded through the Mental Health Levy, enabling CYMHS to expand models of care, increase service capacity and improve access for children, young people and families, while also freeing space for Adult Community Mental Health teams to expand at the Southport Health Precinct.
