Our Infrastructure Projects

Continued investment in Queensland Health services across the state has helped keep the Gold Coast safe from COVID-19.

It’s important that our growing and ageing population continues to have access to quality health care services and facilities. We’re committed to ensuring more Queenslanders can access quality care closer to home which is why we’re planning for the future.

Below are just a few of the projects that are completed or underway in our region to deliver better healthcare for you.

Lavender Mother and Baby unit

Lavender Mother and Baby unit

Gold Coast Health was commissioned to build Queensland's first mother and baby mental health unit. The four-bed Lavender Unit provides hospital treatment for women experiencing significant mental health difficulties in the year following childbirth without the added anxiety of being separated from their baby.  For the first time mothers can be admitted for treatment and support with their babies.

The unit is staffed by a multidisciplinary team that includes experienced doctors, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists and other allied health workers. They are supported by an outreach community team who provide care before and after admission.

Since its opening in 2017, the Lavender Unit has added a sensory garden and enclosed courtyard at a cost of $250,000. It has provided a welcoming space for relaxation and group activities such as mother-and-baby yoga while also giving families a place to come and visit.

The unit has been delivering world-class therapeutic care for several years now including an outdoor environment that benefits mums, their babies and our clinical teams during the recovery process.

Upgrades to continue at Robina

Work has started on building a new facility at Robina Health Precinct that will ensure our staff are able to continue providing the best care for our patients. The new Digital Training Facility will create five training rooms for up to 76 trainees to learn how to use our new integrated electronic Medical Record (ieMR). It’s the latest in a series of construction projects, worth more than $12 million, to transform Robina Hospital and the adjacent Precinct into a more modern and digital-ready health facility. The most significant work involved upgrading the hospital’s Wi-Fi network, network cabling and power in preparation for the successful launch of ieMR last year.

Robina Ready Project
Day Program Adolescent Extended Treatment Facility

Yangah Adolescent Day Program

Yangah, meaning ‘Rise Up’ in Yugambeh language on the Gold Coast, offers a range of interagency, recovery-focused, culturally safe, psychosocial, educational and vocational programs tailored for a young person’s assessed clinical rehabilitation.

The program enables young people (13-18 years) to build on their strengths, enhance their self-esteem, advance opportunities for social inclusion and promote recovery-focused outcomes upon discharge. The program operates on the premise that young people can and do recover from mental illness.

In partnership with the Department of Education at Robina Hospital, young people can access an integrated education and culturally safe mental health recovery service five days a week and remain living at home and engaged in their local community.
