- For patient who present with a vascular malformation, please consider referring the QCH vascular occupational therapy service
- For patients who have hand conditions, consider referring to specialties such as plastic & reconstructive service , orthopaedics or paediatric surgery .
- For patients who are experiencing developmental concerns, consider referring the child development service
- If the consumer is 16-18yrs old and is experiencing concussion, consider to QCH Queensland Paediatric Rehabilitation Service
- For patients with moderate to severe traumatic brain injury, consider referring to referral to the Queensland Paediatric Rehabilitation Service (QPRS).
- For Adult patients requiring treatment post brain injury, refer to the concussion service .
- For patients who require assistance with general toilet training, nighttime wetting, engage a General Practitioner.
Conditions
Out of Scope Services
- Age >16 years
- Infants clinic: over age of 6 months
- Continence: Isolated day time wetting, nighttimewetting or general toilet training
- Scar: The wounds have healed within 17 days, unless there are clearly documented risk factors (i.e infection, wound breakdown, history of poor scarring outcomes, dark skin tone, early signs of scarring) or exceptional clinical considerations.
- Procedural support: No referrals from General Practitioner or private paediatricians can be accepted. where the procedures are occurring at a facility outside of GCHHS.
- Peri-operative Service: Surgery/procedural date within 2 weeks of referral date will not be accepted or where the operation is occurring outside of the Gold Coast University Hospital.
- Participants of NDIS*
*Individual referrals can be considered on a case-by-case basis if they do not meet criteria

Gold Coast Health is responsible for providing public health services to the people who reside within its boundaries. Special consideration is made for patients requiring tertiary services or for services that are not provided by their local hospital and health service district. If your patient lives outside the Gold Coast Health catchment area and you wish to refer them to one of our services, please indicate relevant medical or social information that will assist with the processing of your referral.

Please note that where appropriate and where available, the referral may be streamed to an associated public allied health and/or nursing service. Access to some specific services may include initial assessment and management by associated allied health and/or nursing, which may either facilitate or negate the need to see the public medical specialist.
- A change in patient circumstance (such as condition deteriorating or becoming pregnant) may affect the urgency categorisation and should be communicated as soon as possible.
- Please indicate in the referral if the patient is unable to access mandatory tests or investigations as they incur a cost or are unavailable locally.
- If your patient consents to telehealth, please indicate in the body of the referral.
