Useful Management Information

Referrals to the Occupational Therapy Infant Clinic are accepted for infants aged 0–12 months who are under the medical or allied health care of Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) and present with complex medical and/or psychosocial histories. Referrals must be made by a member of the medical or allied health team. The primary reason for referral should relate to concerns about an infant’s ability to participate in or perform typical developmental activities. These may include—but are not limited to—delays or difficulties in play, early cognition and learning, social engagement, feeding and eating, settling and sleep, or positioning for function. Occupational Therapists identify and address the underlying developmental skill delays impacting performance and participation, with intervention goals tailored to support specific functional outcomes such as parent-infant bonding, sensory regulation, postural control, and early hand use. This clinic does not provide therapy for broad developmental delays unrelated to specific occupational goals, and referrals will not be accepted for infants eligible for community-based services such as Child Development Services (CDS). Where appropriate, referral may be redirected to the Multidisciplinary Panther Clinic.

Dependent upon the family needs, the OT service may be offered face-face, via telehealth, or in the home environment.
