Useful Management Information

The paediatric occupational therapy procedural support clinic is for children and young people (~2-16yo) who require support with preparation, planning and engagement in a procedure or “hospital related occupations” as a part of acute treatment or if they are at risk of hospital admission. The purpose of the OT clinic is to provide procedural preparation through targeted age-appropriate education on what to expect, task analysis of the procedure and assessment of current performance barriers. The OT aims to collaboratively support the young person and their family to create a procedural support plan and ultimately build capacity and skills for them to successfully implement the procedural plan. Please note the OT will not always be present for the actual procedure and this will be considered on a case-by-case basis if indicated. The OT will work closely with the treating team, nursing staff and specialists completing procedures and where required, consider onward referral to psychology.

This clinic is predominantly run face to face due to the practical nature of the interventions however there are options for transition to telehealth/phone consultations following the initial assessment and will be determined on a case by case basis. The clinic is currently only run on a Friday from 8am-2pm.
