Our Program
Program Outline
GPs must be a registered medical practitioner with current medical indemnity insurance.
While it is not necessary that the GP wishing to conduct shared care holds the DRANZCOG or CWH, they should have adequate knowledge and skill in maternity care. GPs undertaking maternity shared care are expected to meet the alignment requirements for maternity shared care and be familiar with the policies of GCUH.
To support GPs providing maternity shared care, GPs can complete the GP Maternity Alignment Program and complete the questionnaire satisfactorily. GPs completing the Maternity Alignment Program will have their names added to a searchable database to enable consumers to find a share care GP.
Alignment 1
To maintain alignment
The GP must over a three year period either:
- attend an Alignment Program including Q&A, OR
- attend three relevant two hour antenatal or postnatal/neonatal CPD events (category 2) AND complete online education including Q&A. (In development)
The three year cycle is run in parallel with the triennium set down by the RACGP and the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) for GP Vocational Registration.

Resources
A range of program resources has been developed to assist in completing the program, and to enhance clinical knowledge and referral processes.
Maternity Shared Care Guidelines
The guidelines outline specific antenatal indications to facilitate discussion, consultation and/or referral to specialist obstetricians in the care of pregnant women and their families.
