Ryan is a kidney transplant recipient and long-term health consumer who has spent many years navigating complex care pathways, specialist services and ongoing treatment. These experiences have given him a deep understanding of the challenges patients and families face, and a strong appreciation for coordinated care, clear communication and compassionate support.
Beyond his own health journey, Ryan contributes to the Gold Coast iSpeak Kidney Group and participates in Kidney Health Australia's Kidney Buddy Program, offering peer connection and encouragement to people navigating similar experiences.
Professionally, Ryan works in the design and development of complex software systems, with a focus on clarity, efficiency and long-term outcomes. He brings this systems-thinking approach to healthcare, recognising that behind every policy, workflow and communication gap is an opportunity to design services that better support real people.
Through the Consumer Advisory Group, Ryan aims to contribute practical, thoughtful insights that help shape safe, responsive and person-centred healthcare for the Gold Coast community. His particular focus is on strengthening health literacy. He believes that when consumers can access and understand clear, meaningful health information, they are better equipped to participate in their own care, make informed decisions and engage meaningfully in the systems that serve them.
