Ray brings an interdisciplinary perspective to health consumer advocacy, with training across health and legal disciplines and a strong commitment to advancing health literacy, research translation, and equitable access to care.
Currently undertaking medical training in Queensland, Ray is particularly interested in strengthening the connection between clinical practice, governance, and system-level reform. His focus includes improving how evidence is translated into practice, embedding meaningful consumer partnership in service design, and addressing structural barriers faced by culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
Ray’s commitment to equity is informed by his experience supporting family members from non-English speaking backgrounds to navigate complex, English-dominant healthcare systems. This has shaped his appreciation for clear communication, culturally responsive services, and policies that reduce access gaps.
Prior to relocating to Australia, Ray was actively involved in community leadership in Canada, serving for eight years on the Board of the Vancouver Olympic Centre, including as Programs Director and Vice-President. He led youth advocacy and leadership initiatives aimed at strengthening community engagement and access. He has also undertaken cardiovascular research with the BC Research Institute, with a focus on ethics and community impact.
As a member of the Consumer Advisory Group, Ray is keen to contribute to governance and research initiatives that strengthen transparency, evidence-informed practice, and meaningful consumer partnership across Queensland’s health system.
