The Mental Health Hospital in the Home (MH HITH) service offers an innovative alternative to inpatient care, delivering specialist mental health treatment in the comfort and familiarity of a person’s own home.
Our multidisciplinary team, comprising experienced clinicians and peer workers with lived experience, delivers intensive, recovery-focused support for adults aged 18 years and older experiencing acute mental illness. This diverse team – including registered nurses, psychiatrists, medical registrars, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers, peer and carer support workers, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers – provides expert clinical support, evidence-based therapies, functional and psychosocial assistance, and culturally safe, person-centred interventions to promote independence and wellbeing.
The MH-HITH team delivers hospital-level mental health care in the home across the Gold Coast region through a collaborative, recovery-oriented approach. Key responsibilities include:
MH-HITH is available to adults aged 18 years and older who are experiencing acute mental illness and can be safely managed within their home environment. Suitability is determined through a comprehensive clinical assessment, ensuring safety, support availability and treatment needs can be met outside an inpatient setting.
