Located within H2 East at Robina Hospital, the 10-bed Acute Cognitive Unit (ACU) is co-located with a 10-bed Acute Geriatric Unit (AGU), providing specialised care for older adults with complex cognitive, medical and functional needs.
The refurbished 20-bed ward has been designed to support older adults and patients experiencing Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD).
The opening of H2 East expands access to dedicated cognitive and geriatric services closer to home for patients and families across the central and southern Gold Coast.

H2 East has been designed with a strong focus on comfort, familiarity and connection.
Thoughtful design elements such as clear wayfinding, access to natural light and comfortable, homelike spaces help patients feel settled and connected during their care.
Each bedroom includes personalised features to help patients recognise and identify their own space. Soft lighting, coordinated furnishings and warm finishes create a calm and welcoming atmosphere.
Dedicated activity and quiet areas provide space for meaningful activities, reflection and social engagement, giving staff more ways to support patients throughout the day.
A revitalised outdoor garden terrace, wheelchair-accessible garden beds and increased natural light help bring the outdoors in, creating opportunities for patients to enjoy and connect with nature.
The ward incorporates design features aligned with dementia-friendly principles to support comfort, orientation and wellbeing.
Artwork from local Gold Coast artists and Gold Coast Health staff is displayed throughout the ward, featuring nature-based imagery, familiar local landscapes and recognisable landmarks.
Together with environmental design features, these elements help create a welcoming and supportive environment for patients, families and carers.
