Gold Coast University Hospital provides a Shared Care Haematology and Oncology Service with a lead paediatrician, specialist nurses, nurse practitioner and allied health staff delivering shared family focussed care.
This is in partnership with the Queensland Children’s Cancer Centre level 6 tertiary oncology service, and the Queensland Haemophilia Centre inherited bleeding disorder service based at the Queensland Children's Hospital.
Treatment given locally includes chemotherapy in the GCUH Children’s Day Stay Unit, supportive care including central venous line cares, blood product administration, management of febrile neutropenia, psychosocial support to the child and family, assistance with return to school and long term follow up following completion of treatment.
