Our clinics are run by trained health professionals who work with families to understand their child’s needs and help plan the next steps.
When your child is referred to CDS, our team looks carefully at the information provided by your GP or health professional.
This helps us decide:
With your permission, your child may be linked with one or more clinics to make sure they get the right support.

At any time in your young person’s journey - before a referral, while they are with our service, or after they are discharged - your GP can ask for advice from our child development specialists through our service called DevPaed Connect. DevPaed Connect helps GPs get quick, tailored advice within days. Your GP can ask questions about your young person’s development, behaviour, learning or care needs. Advice can help guide next steps, supports, or referrals.
DevPaed Connect is only for GPs to contact specialists. Families do not use DevPaed Connect directly.
DevPaed Connect does not replace a full referral if ongoing specialist care is needed. DevPaed Connect supports shared care between your GP and child development specialists, helping families get the right advice at the right time.
These clinics focus on one main area of development.
*Between ages 16-18 years, young person needs to be engaged with an education service.
CDS Multidisciplinary Clinics mainly focus on assessment. Assessments usually happen over a short period of time (1 to 3 months), depending on the clinic.
Although these clinics involve a team of professionals, not every child will see all team members. The assessments and staff involved will depend on your child’s needs and the concerns being assessed.
After the assessments are finished, the team will meet with you to explain the results. They will help you understand your young person’s strengths and areas where support is needed.
The team will also support your family to connect with long-term supports in the community, such as the NDIS, private therapists, and other community services.
