Proxima CYMHS fit-out takes shape

Fit-out continues on Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) facility at Proxima

Construction continues on Gold Coast Health’s new purpose-built Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) facility at Proxima, where wall framing, services installation and sheeting has brought the internal fit-out to life.

Clinical rooms, therapy areas and shared spaces are beginning to form, offering an early look at how the new facility will function once complete.

Located on Level 6 of the Proxima building in the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct, the 1,400 square-metre facility has been designed in collaboration with clinicians, architects and young people with lived experience to ensure a safe, welcoming and psychologically supportive environment for young people up to 25 years of age and their families.

The design helps create a supportive environment, with private therapy rooms, group and family spaces, sensory and breakout areas for young people who may need a calmer area.

The use of natural light and calming colours will help create a welcoming atmosphere, with adjustable lighting and soft finishes to support comfort and safety. Dedicated areas have been designed for various age groups, so each young person has a space that suits their needs.

Planning for the facility’s arts program is underway, with early discussions guiding how artwork and creative features will be integrated throughout key internal spaces to help create a calm and supportive environment.

Services are expected to commence in the first quarter of 2026, with young people and families welcomed into a new space that supports expanded models of care and increased service capacity.

This relocation is funded through the Mental Health Levy, enabling CYMHS to expand models of care, increase service capacity and improve access for children, young people and families, while also freeing space for Adult Community Mental Health teams to grow at the Southport Health Precinct.
