Newly Qualified Nurse/Midwife (NQN/NQM) transition

Our transition support is designed to develop you into a safe, competent and confident clinician who can work collaboratively in a team.

During your transition you will receive:

  • comprehensive orientation and preceptorship support
  • paid study days to support and encourage growth
  • preceptorship and mentoring throughout the transition
  • supported professional development to solidify and further extend knowledge
  • career advancement opportunities for motivated candidates to make their mark in the organisation.

What do we offer?

Enrolled Nurse
  • Temporary six-month contract
  • 48 hours per fortnight with the ability to work up to 72 hours per fortnight.
  • The 2023 recruitment campaign is scheduled to commence in March, subject to organisational requirements.

Registered Nurse
  • Part-time temporary twelve-month contract
  • Applications submitted via the Graduate Portal in July/August each year with intakes in January and mid-year
  • Both intakes are recruited from one campaign

Registered Midwife
  • Part-time temporary twelve-month contract
  • Applications submitted via the Graduate Portal in July/August each year with one intake in January/February
  • Newly Qualified Midwives are educationally supported on a rotational program working in all areas of maternity services including pregnancy, birth and post-natal care.

 

Beyond Graduate Transition Year:

We also offer an opportunity for nurses to transition into specialty services after the transition to practice year is completed. Units that offer specialty transition to practice include:

  • Emergency
  • Intensive/critical care (adults and children’s)
  • Neonatal intensive care
  • Medical Imaging
  • Mental health
  • Oncology/Haematology day unit
  • Paediatrics
  • Perioperative department (anaesthetics, scrub/scout, post-anaesthetic care)
  • Procedural areas (radiology, endoscopy, cardiac catheter)
  • Renal.

Who is eligible to apply?

We welcome applications from enrolled, registered nurses and registered midwives who are approaching graduation or recently graduated.

Registered Nurses or Midwives apply through the Queensland Government Graduate Portal

  • Eligibility criteria is outlined in the prospectus

Graduate enrolled nurses can apply through the Queensland Government Smart Jobs website for opportunities as they become available if you meet the following criteria:

  • recently completed your Diploma of Nursing (within 18 months prior to commencing)
  • Australian/New Zealand or permanent resident
  • will be registered with AHPRA prior to commencement.
