Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit gains state recognition

The Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit (SMHRU) has added another accolade to its name, taking out the Master Builders Queensland State Award for ‘Health Facility over $20 million’.

The achievement builds on its earlier regional win and highlights continued recognition for excellence in health care design and delivery.

Delivered in partnership with managing contractor BESIX Watpac and principal consultant in architecture ARCH, the SMHRU is a purpose-built facility providing specialised care in a secure, recovery-focused environment that supports people on their rehabilitation journey.

Constructed within an operational hospital campus, the project required meticulous planning and close collaboration across all partners to ensure safety, efficiency and minimal disruption to hospital operations.

This state-level accolade celebrates the innovation, teamwork and dedication of everyone involved in bringing this transformative facility to life and reflects Gold Coast Health’s ongoing commitment to delivering world-class mental health care for the community.
