Bunnings Warehouse Burleigh Waters team members visited last week to install more than 1200 fairy lights plus reindeers, snow flakes and candy canes.

The outdoor area allows palliative care patients, who can often spend weeks in hospital, and their families to spend time together in a relaxing calming space.

Palliative Care Unit Nurse Unit Manager Maureen Tapfield said it was wonderful to have donations and support from the community.

“The difference it will make to our patients, families and wonderful nursing team will be lovely.”

“Christmas is not just one day for our patients and their families. It’s about a festive season and the opportunity for them to share time with their families and friends. Having the community involved makes it that much easier,” Ms Tapfield said.

The Christmas lights will be switched on Thursday, 1 December when the palliative care unit hosts a ‘tapas under the stars’ event for patients and families.
