Meet Gold Coast Health Team Leader of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Aleta Webb – one of the clinical brains behind the design of the new Coomera Hospital.
To kick things off, tell us about your career journey…
I started at the Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) as a general and Computed Tomography (CT) radiographer and within a year of commencing that role, I began specialising in magnetic resonance technology.
Since then, I’ve completed my Master’s in MRI and have been leading the MRI team for over seven years.
What does your current role involve?
As the MRI Team Leader, I balance both leadership and clinical responsibilities.
My role involves managing the team, providing mentorship and support, and keeping communication flowing smoothly within the team and across other departments.
I’m also responsible for maintaining high standards of patient care, overseeing quality control, and making sure MRI safety protocols are always followed.
What has your role been in the new Coomera Hospital?
I’ve helped ensure the new hospital’s design layout meets all MRI requirements.
This includes the use of best practices to meet our department’s clinical and safety needs to improve workflow efficiency.
Why is it important clinicians have input into this future facility?
It’s important to gather feedback from the clinical teams and address any concerns or issues they raise.
This not only helps fine-tune the outcome with a patient-focused approach but also creates a sense of inclusiveness among the staff.
Do you have a highlight as a Project User Group (PUG) member?
The highlight of my experience was coordinating the design and functional elements of the new Coomera Hospital.
It was such a rewarding phase of the project because it involved collaborating with a diverse team.
I especially enjoyed watching the working group tackle challenges head-on and seeing how those moments led to real improvements in the design.
What do you hope the Coomera Hospital will be?
I see the new Coomera Hospital as a place of excellence, innovation, and strong community engagement.
When it comes to culture, I am envisioning an environment built on respect and continuous learning.
I’m especially passionate about using the latest MRI technology and best practices to deliver the highest quality imaging service.
Lastly, what do you do to stay healthy?
Exercise, prioritise sleep, stay hydrated and have a balanced diet.
