Gold Coast Health recently welcomed a mid-year intake of medical interns, and they’re already walking the wards, taking their first steps as doctors.
While all members of this cohort are graduates of Bond University, the road to medicine looks different for everyone, and two of our newest medical interns, Kyrellos and Georgia, illustrate that perfectly.
Kyrellos began his career as a physiotherapist, where he gained valuable insight into patient care. But he wanted to do more.
"As a physio, I saw the patient journey from one perspective, but as a doctor, I can contribute to their care in a more holistic way," he said.
Georgia started her professional life in the corporate world with a Bachelor of Business and Commerce.
It was her passion for lifelong learning that led her to make the leap into medicine.
"Medicine offers endless opportunities to learn and grow, and that’s what drew me to it," she said.
A proud Gold Coast local, Georgia is thrilled to be serving the Gold Coast community she grew up in.
"It’s such a privilege to come back to my hometown and work in the hospital that means so much to me," she said.
Kyrellos, from Melbourne, was drawn to Gold Coast Health by its supportive environment and career opportunities – and the weather and beaches, of course.
“Gold Coast Health has a reputation for being very supportive and a place that fosters the careers of its interns and junior doctors, and the weather is a perk,” he said.
Georgia and Kyrellos are joined by 12 other medical interns who have commenced with Gold Coast Health in our second mid-year intake, building on the success of las year’s inaugural group.
A warm welcome to all our medical interns. We can’t wait to see the incredible impact you’ll make.
