The Southport Medical Imaging Centre forms part of the Queensland Government’s Statewide MRI and CT Expansion Program, a $276 million investment to increase medical imaging capacity across Queensland.
The program will deliver six new MRI machines and nine CT scanners across 11 Queensland locations, helping increase diagnostic imaging capacity, reduce pressure on existing services and support Queenslanders to access healthcare when they need it.
The Southport Medical Imaging Centre (SMIC) will expand diagnostic imaging capacity on the Gold Coast, helping meet growing demand for medical imaging services.
The project will deliver new and expanded MRI, CT, X-ray and orthopantomogram (OPG) imaging capability at Tweed Street, Southport, alongside contemporary clinical and support spaces and supporting infrastructure.
Increasing medical imaging capacity will improve access to diagnostic services, support more timely diagnosis and treatment, and help reduce pressure on existing hospital-based imaging services.

We are committed to keeping our community and stakeholders informed as the Southport Medical Imaging Centre progresses.
