Useful Management Information
- The 0-5 Year clinics are an opportunity to have a consultation with an experienced Child and Family Health Nurse.
- Consultations can support parents/ carers who have any specific concerns regarding their child’s health and development (non-urgent), it can also be for routine health and developmental checks.
- The health and developmental checks are provided, as per the recommended schedule of; 0-4 weeks; 6-8 weeks; 4, 6, 12 and 18 months; 2, 3 and 4 years, as outlined in the Personal Child Health Record/ Redbook.
- The checks involve routine tracking of a child’s growth and assessing developmental progress including gross and fine motor skills, speech, and language, and social and emotional development.
- Health advice and guidance are provided with a focus on health promotion and building parent/carer confidence.
- Anticipatory guidance can be provided, which includes nutritional information, feeding support, infant, and child behaviour.
- During the appointment, the Nurses will also offer support and advice, where appropriate regarding parent/carer/ family health needs.
- Referrals can be made to other specialist services if any additional support is required, such as Speech Pathology, Dietitian’s, Child Development services, non-government organisations and Early Years Centres.
