Useful Management Information

  • Parent education groups are a fantastic way for new parents to connect and make friends, share experiences, and support each other.
  • They are an informal way to get to know other parents and to discuss health or parenting challenges common to all.
  • At the parent education groups a wide range of topics are discussed including sleep and settling; introducing solid food; transitioning to parenting, infant social-emotional development; speech and language; play, developmental milestones; safety and oral health.
  • No referral is required for the parent education groups; parents and carers can self-refer by calling (07) 5687 9183 or attending one of the drop-in clinics and speaking to a Child and Family Health service team member.
  • There are a range of parenting programs on offer by the service. Including:
  • Circle of Security Parenting (COS-P)
  • Circle of Security is a relationship-based early intervention program aimed at parents/ carers of children 4 months to 6 years of age.
  • This eight-week program focuses on a child’s emotional and behavioural needs, building a positive relationship with your child, helping children manage their feelings and enhancing self-esteem. Children may attend with their parents if they are under 12 months of age.
  • Triple P - Positive Parenting Program
  • Triple P aims to support family relationships and develop strategies to manage the everyday challenges of parenting. It is an Australian based program and is offered to parents/ carers of children 2 – 8 years of age. You will learn about:
  • What is positive parenting
  • Creating an environment to support your child’s development
  • Strategies to manage child behaviours
  • Helping your child/ren develop new skills
  • Support your child’s emotional regulation.
  • It is a four-week in-person program that includes follow-up telephone check-ins.

Minimum Referral Criteria

Does your patient meet the minimum referral criteria?
Category 1 (appointment within 30 calendar days)
  • No category 1 criteria
Category 2 (appointment within 90 calendar days)
  • Parents/carers seeking early education, support, and skill-building in parenting to promote child health, development, and family wellbeing.
Category 3 (appointment within 365 calendar days)
  • No Category 3 criteria

If your patient does not meet the minimum referral criteria

  • Assessment and management information may be found on a range of conditions at HealthPathways
  • If the patient does not meet the criteria for referral but the referring practitioner believes the patient requires specialist review, a clinical override may be requested:
    • Please explain why (e.g. warning signs or symptoms, clinical modifiers, uncertain about diagnosis, etc.)
  • Please note that your referral may not be accepted or may be redirected to another service

  • Parent/ carer consented to referral
  • Parent/ carer concerns/ area of support required
  • Referring practitioner concerns/ area of support required
  • Child and parent/ carer demographic details
  • Relevant health history/ including birth and post-partum details, current and previous
  • Psychosocial history current and previous (i.e. parent/ carer health history, including mental health, domestic family violence, substance use)
  • Other stakeholder support (i.e. GP, NDIS, NGO, PNMH, Child Safety)
