GPs using Smart Referrals are reminded that the Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) Service appears as an option when choosing cardiology, respiratory, neurology, haematology, oncology and palliative care conditions in the condition/ specialty field.

Please be aware that since recently adding the VAD service to Smart Referrals, it now appears as the first service option for these specialties, displacing the general outpatient option.

Take care in selecting the correct service you wish to refer your patient to as several referrals have been received by VAD where general outpatient referral is required.

We encourage you to review Voluntary Assisted Dying on Health Pathways and referral guidelines for the support service on Refer Your Patient.
