Gold Coast Health offers a Hospital in the Home (HITH) service for suitable patients whose care may be stepped down after hospital admission and managed in the home setting.

HITH is introducing a new model whereby GPs can refer suitable and eligible patients directly to the service to avoid a hospital admission and instead have care delivered at home.

The service will be available for patients with urinary tract infections (UTI) or cellulitis where oral treatment options have been exhausted but patient acuity is such that medical management (including intravenous antibiotics) in the home is feasible. Once identified and accepted to the service medical management will rest with the health service and GPs will not be expected to manage the patient until discharged from the service.

If you have suitable patients with UTI or cellulitis requiring IV antibiotic therapy for 2 -3 days:

  1. Please call HITH on 5687 0038 Monday to Friday 08:00 to 15:30
  2. You will be connected to the HITH registrar to discuss further management
  3. Patients will need to be able to attend Gold Coast University Hospital for assessment and first dose of intravenous medication

We are currently establishing the online pathways for referral to this service.
