Changes to Community Health Centre referrals

From 22nd October, we will be using Smart Referrals for all referral management.

We are changing the way we process referrals at Community Health Centres at Robina and Helensvale.

Changes for GPs

Until your practice is enabled with Smart Referrals, please continue to submit referrals using secure electronic transmission (eg Medical Objects).

If you currently fax referrals to Gold Coast Health, please note there is now only one fax number for all referrals (07) 5687 4497.

Please do not email any referrals to Gold Coast Health as this process is no longer supported.

Urgent referrals should always be marked as such so they can be prioritised.

Once you are enabled with Smart Referrals you will receive all advice regarding patient referrals and appointments electronically. Until then you will continue to receive the electronic auto-acknowledgement of your referral when sent by Medical Objects or an acknowledgement by post for faxed referrals.

Changes for Patients

From 22 October 2021, patients will receive an SMS notification from Gold Coast Health when their referral is received and accepted.

Smart Referrals implementation

More than half of Gold Coast practices have already signed up for Smart Referrals and one third of practices are using it regularly.

If you have registered for Smart Referrals, please continue to work with our General Practice Liaison Unit to secure your activation date and training.

If your Practice is not yet registered for Smart Referrals, please email us on GCGPLU@health.qld.gov.au as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience while we transition to the new referrals management system.
