Useful Management Information

  • Clients receiving Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty / Endovascular Revascularisation should be referred for Supervised Exercise Training
  • Clients with intermittent claudication clients should be offered Supervised Exercise Training as first line conservative therapy
  • Indications and strategic choices of Endovascular Revascularisation/ Supervised Exercise Training will vary depending on the clinical severity of the PAD and anatomical distribution of disease

Minimum Referral Criteria

Does your patient meet the minimum referral criteria?
Category 1 (appointment within 30 calendar days)
  • Vascular disease present in lower limbs from common iliac artery to arteries below the knee are accepted including:
    • Post-operative Angioplasty/Stenting
    • Post-operative Lower limb vascular bypass
  • Surgical avoidance for intermittent claudication
Category 2 (appointment within 90 calendar days)
  • No category 2 criteria
Category 3 (appointment within 365 calendar days)
  • No category 3 criteria

If your patient does not meet the minimum referral criteria

  • Assessment and management information may be found on a range of conditions at HealthPathways
  • If the patient does not meet the criteria for referral but the referring practitioner believes the patient requires specialist review, a clinical override may be requested:
    • Please explain why (e.g. warning signs or symptoms, clinical modifiers, uncertain about diagnosis, etc.)
  • Please note that your referral may not be accepted or may be redirected to another service

Essential Referral Information

  • Vascular Investigations: Vascular duplex ultrasound, CT angiogram, Angiogram
  • All relevant Medical History, specifically including lowerlimb symptoms
  • Lipid profile
  • HbA1c (if confirmed Diabetes)

Additional Referral Information

  • All other relevant pathology (within the last 6 months)
