    • Speech pathology referral for swallowing assessment if concerned about dysphagia

Minimum Referral Criteria

Does your patient meet the minimum referral criteria?
Category 1 (appointment within 30 calendar days)
  • Cytology confirmed malignancy or suspicious FNA or dominant nodule > 4cm on USS
  • Compressive symptoms e.g., dyspnoea, hoarseness, dysphagia
Category 2 (appointment within 90 calendar days)
  • Generalised thyroid enlargement without compressive symptoms or
  • Recurrent thyroid cysts
Category 3 (appointment within 365 calendar days)
  • Surveillance of known benign thyroid lumps > 40mm in diameter

Essential Referral Information

  • USS, TIRADS score +/- FNA cytology
  • TSH and T4
