- Most suspected pulmonary embolism should be referred urgently to Emergency for diagnosis and management.
- Hereditary thrombophilia testing is not indicated for most patients with first episode of VTE.
- Hereditary thrombophilia testing is not indicated as screening in asymptomatic patients.

- Family history of VTE
- FBC
Additional Referral Information
- Smoking history
- History of any active malignancy
- Lupus anticoagulant and antiphospholipid antibody testing if unprovoked VTE
