  • The Obstetric Medicine Dietitian Service runs a half day clinic on weekdays from the Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH)

Minimum Referral Criteria

Does your patient meet the minimum referral criteria?
Category 1 (appointment within 30 calendar days)

For optimum care, these conditions should be seen within 2 working days from acceptance of referral:

  • Hyperemesis Gravidarum
  • Cholecystitis

For optimum care, these conditions should be seen within 5 working days from acceptance of referral:

  • Weight loss in pregnancy
  • Post Bariatric Surgery
  • IUGR
  • Poorly managed T1 or T2 in pregnancy
  • Poorly managed GDM (>3 post prandial BGL above range)

For optimum care these patients should be seen within 10 working days from acceptance of referral:

  • Pre-Pregnancy BMI >40 with excessive GWG
  • Pre-pregnancy BMI <18.5 with inadequate GWG

For optimum care these patients should be seen within 20 working days from acceptance of referral:

  • Nutrition advice for multiples pregnancy
  • Multiple nutrient deficiencies (e.g. iron, B12)
Category 2 (appointment within 90 calendar days)
  • No category 2 criteria
Category 3 (appointment within 365 calendar days)
  • No category 3 criteria

If your patient does not meet the minimum referral criteria

  • Assessment and management information may be found on a range of conditions at HealthPathways
  • If the patient does not meet the criteria for referral but the referring practitioner believes the patient requires specialist review, a clinical override may be requested:
    • Please explain why (e.g. warning signs or symptoms, clinical modifiers, uncertain about diagnosis, etc.)
  • Please note that your referral may not be accepted or may be redirected to another service

Essential Referral Information

  • Reason for referral (list the condition/s requiring dietetic support during pregnancy)
  • Stage of pregnancy or Estimated Date of Delivery (EDD)
  • If referring for Diabetes in pregnancy or GDM, please provide at least 3 post prandial BGL

Additional Referral Information

  • Anthropometry (Height, Weight, Pre-Pregnancy weight)
