  • Treat infection as required.

NB if associated bone infection suspected please see orthopaedic paediatric referral guidelines for bone infection

  • Advise on preventative / conservative treatment measures including podiatry principles of nail care and hygiene
  • Next of kin or person(s) who is legally responsible for patient consent, with the exception of children under guardianship orders with the Child Safety Service, should be present at the first outpatient appointment
  • Paediatric surgery registrars at the Gold Coast University Hosptial can offer telephone advice in business hours to rural HHS. In some areas it would be more appropriate to seek initial advice from local paediatric medical service or general surgery services.

Category 1 (appointment within 30 calendar days)
  • No category 1 criteria
Category 2 (appointment within 90 calendar days)
  • No category 2 criteria
Category 3 (appointment within 365 calendar days)
  • Surgical management for failed conservative treatment
  • Recurrent ingrown toenails
