Useful Management Information

  • Robina Nutrition Department HEN Clinic runs on a weekly basis from the Robina Health Precinct (RHP).
  • As per Queensland Health directive patients receiving home enteral nutrition support should be reviewed at least six monthly.
  • The clinic does not accept referrals from General Practitioners, alternatively GPs could refer to Central Intake Unit for dietetic input

Minimum Referral Criteria

Does your patient meet the minimum referral criteria?
Category 1 (appointment within 30 calendar days)
  • For optimum care, these conditions should be seen within 2 weeks:
    • New NG/NJ feeding/ scripts for supplements or feeds
    • New Exclusive Enteral Nutrition/Polymeric Diet (for inflammatory bowel disease)
  • For optimum care, these conditions should be seen within 4 weeks:
    • High risk moderate-severe Malnutrition
    • HEN patients with acute issues
    • Stable NG/NJ feeding
Category 2 (appointment within 90 calendar days)
  • Ongoing scripts for oral nutrition supplements
Category 3 (appointment within 365 calendar days)
  • No category 3 criteria
  • If the patient does not meet the criteria for referral but the referring practitioner believes the patient requires specialist review, a clinical override may be requested:
    • Please explain why (e.g. warning signs or symptoms, clinical modifiers, uncertain about diagnosis, etc.)
  • Please note that your referral may not be accepted or may be redirected to another service.

Essential Referral Information

  • Reason for referral
  • Relevant Medical history
  • Treatment to date including reason for commencement on home enteral nutrition
  • Type of enteral nutrition prescribed
  • Any relevant discharge arrangements

If a specific test result is unable to be obtained due to access, financial, religious, cultural or consent reasons a Clinical Override may be requested. This reason must be clearly articulated in the body of the referral.
