Children's Haematology and Oncology Shared Care

The Queensland Paediatric Haematology Oncology Network (QPHON) as part of Children’s Health Queensland Hospital Health Service (CHQ HHS) operates a “shared care model” in conjunction with the Level 6 tertiary service based at the Queensland Children’s Cancer Centre at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

Gold Coast University Hospital provides a Shared Care Haematology and Oncology Service with a lead paediatrician, specialist nurses and allied health staff delivering shared care.

Treatment given includes chemotherapy in the Children’s Day Stay Unit, supportive care including central veinous line cares, blood product administration, management of febrile neutropenia, psychosocial support to the child and family, assistance with return to school and long term follow up following completion of treatment.
