Gold Coast Health Board members Professor Allan Cripps and Dr Andrew Weissenberger were wearing very different hats when their paths crossed on the Queen’s Baton Relay earlier this week.
Allan was among the local legends who carried the baton on its final Gold Coast leg while Andrew has been having the time of his life as team doctor of the baton relay as it travelled across Australia.
“We’ve met the most amazing, inspiring people – all over the country. It’s been the trip of a lifetime,” Andrew said.
In 2015 Allan was awarded an Order of Australia for distinguished service to tertiary education and to public health as a leading immunologist, academic and researcher.
More than 3,500 baton bearers were nominated by their peers for achievements and contributions to their community.
